A trustworthy review shares three traits, and you can check all of them in under a minute: it shows real testing, it admits real downsides, and it tells you how the site makes money. Miss any one and you are probably reading an ad in disguise.
Real testing, not generic praise
Look for specifics only a hands-on user would know — numbers, screenshots, the thing that broke on day three. Vague enthusiasm (“intuitive and powerful!”) is what you write when you have not actually used the product. A real methodology, like how we test, should be visible or one click away.
Clear downsides
A review with no cons is an ad. Every product annoys someone; honest ones tell you who and why, so you can decide whether the trade-off is yours to accept. When you read our Product A review, the cons are the part to read first.
A visible disclosure
If the site earns a commission, it should say so plainly and near the link — see affiliate disclosures. Hidden money is the strongest sign that the recommendation is not really yours to trust.
How to read the rating
A number is a summary, not the argument. Use it to sort a shortlist, then read the reasoning behind it. A 4.5 backed by specific, testable claims beats a 5.0 that reads like the marketing page.
